Food safety and raw fish
Raw fish can contain parasites which can make both people and pets unwell. Fortunately, saltwater fish are safer to consume raw compared with freshwater fish, and the main parasite of concern in this case is Anisakis (nematode worms).
Our Hoki is processed at sea, and immediately blast-frozen at -35 C until solid, then kept frozen at -20 C for a minimum of 24 hours, which destroys any parasite larvae.
Bacteria can be present in raw fish, as they can also be in raw poultry and meat. If your pet is immunocompromised, you and your vet may choose to avoid raw freeze-dried treats, diets or meat, and instead opt for a cooked option.
