Restricting phosphorus can slow the progression of kidney disease

Phosphorus is normally eliminated by the kidneys, and when kidney function declines, phosphorus levels in the blood increase, leading to various health issues.
Feeding a diet and treats that are low in phosphorus has been shown to increase survival time in dogs with kidney disease.

Omega-3 fatty acids can help to reduce kidney inflammation and fibrosis

As kidney disease progresses, it frequently involves inflammation, and this can contribute to renal fibrosis developing (where normal kidney tissue is replaced by scar tissue).

Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to help reduce this fibrosis and protect the kidneys.
