Chitosan is a natural phosphate binder derived from the shells of crustaceans
The exoskeleton of crustaceans like shrimp and crabs contains chitin, from which chitosan is made. It binds to negatively changed molecules like phosphorus, and prevents its absorption in the gut. This helps to lower phosphorus in the blood of cats with kidney disease.
Omega-3 fatty acids can help to reduce kidney inflammation and fibrosis
As kidney disease progresses, it frequently involves inflammation, and this can contribute to renal fibrosis developing (where normal kidney tissue is replaced by scar tissue).
Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to help reduce this fibrosis and protect the kidneys.

Feeding guidelines
Suitable for adult cats with IRIS stage 1 to 3 chronic kidney disease. Not suitable for growing kittens. We recommend checking the suitability of these treats for your cat with your local veterinarian. Please be aware that freeze-dried treats have a very low moisture content and large quantities may increase the risk of constipation in some cats.
Adult cats (2 to 4.5 kg): Feed up to 12 treats per day
Adult cats (4.5 to 8 kg): Feed up to 20 treats per day
